SBA TO HOST SWIM MEET

IN DECEMBER

SOUTH BAY AQUATICS will be hosting its next swim meet on the weekend of December 13 & 14. This is a B/C All Ages meet that will attract all of the teams in San Diego County and will be well attended. We will need the help of all of our families to volunteer for all of the positions that need to be filled to efficiently host a meet. Many of the positions do not require any experience. We will need help from set-up time at 6:00 a.m. until the end of the meet which will be about 3:00 p.m. We also offer “community service” hours for students that need to meet their school requirements. Be sure to keep that weekend open to help your kids and SBA!

2009 JUNIOR OLYMPIC

TIME STANDARDS

The 2009 Jr. Olympic Time Standards are now available. There have been some slight changes to many events. Some have gotten faster and some have gotten slower. Be sure to check the new times against your personal best times to se if you are a 2009 J.O. Qualifier. Use these times to set your own personal goals for the 2009 season. The new standards are on the back page of this issue of “On Deck”, tear it off and keep in a safe place for your own information and to refer to later

2009 USA SWIMMING REGISTRATIONS NOW AVAILABLE

USA Swimming Registration forms for the 2009 season are now available. Every SBA swimmer is required to be currently registered with USA Swimming. By registering now you will have the remainder of the 2008 year and all of next year until December 31, 2009. Registration is $55 and checks must be made payable to:

San Diego – Imperial Swimming.

MEALS FOR THE

ERICKSON FAMILY

Many of you have expressed an interest in helping the Erickson Family while Ellen is undergoing medical treatments and they spend countless hours in and out of the hospital with Ellen. We’d like to show our support by setting up a “Meals on Wheels” program for the family. The plan will be to provide 3 hot meals a week. Obviously we need many volunteers for this program to be a success. Meals will need to be delivered by 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Thursday or Saturday and healthy, wholesome meals are requested. If you would like to participate in this program (if we get enough volunteers you would only need to provide a meal about once every 3 months) please email southbayaquatics@sbcglobal.net or call Dena Voigt at 216-4990 if you would like to sign or if you have any questions. ADDISON SEALE NAME COACHES ASSOCIATION

“SWIMMER OF THE MONTH”

Congratulation to SBA swimmer Addison Seale, for being selected as the July “Swimmer of the Month” for San Diego – Imperial Swimming by the Coaches Association. Each month a swimmer is chosen from all of the performances that month by San Diego swimmers. Addie will receive a plaque at the Short Course Junior Olympics for her accomplishment.

WELCOME BACK COACH RACHAEL

Coach Rachael will be back to work at Loma Verde on Wednesday, November 12. There will be a reorganization of the groups between her and Rene as Rachael will have the “Age Group Gold” and Rene the “Age Group Silver”. Coach Jimmy will remain with the “Age Group Bronze” at Loma Verde. Your cooperation will make the transition go smoothly.

IN NEED OF EXTRA MONEY?

Team fees, gas, food, housing, all continue to go up and it is always getting more difficult to make ends meet. The following articles are ways to help your family’s financial situation.

TIMING SYSTEM OPERATORS NEEDED

We are always in need of people interested in learning to work the team’s Colorado Timing System at swim meets. The timing system is a major source of income for SBA and it is important to keep an adequate number of operators to cover every swim meet on the San Diego – Imperial Swimming meet schedule. There is an operator’s fee that is paid, usually $75 a day or more, to the operator for running the timing system. If you are interested in learning more about becoming a timing system operator call Brad Voigt @ 302-1338.

HELP SBA BY BECOMING

AN OFFICIAL

We appreciate our SBA parents that are certified swimming officials, we couldn’t have swim meets without them! We are always looking for parents that are interested in becoming officials for our team. Thank you to the parents that are now in the process of getting certified. We can never have too many officials. If teams do not provide their required number of officials at swim meets there is a fine that is assessed by our Local Swim Committee.

SBA offers financial incentives for parents who become officials and work swim meets for our team. For working just one weekend a month you can have a child swim for FREE!

OFFICIAL’S CLINIC

For all parents interested in becoming an official there is and LSC “Official’s Clinic” SCHEDULED on Wednesday, November 19 at 7:00p.m. at the All Sports Office on Morena Blvd.

NEW GROUP NAMES

The Coaches have decided to re-name the group titles to help make the levels easier to understand and more uniform across the team. The Novice, 1 hour level will now be “Age Group Bronze”. The intermediate 11/2 hour level will be “Age Group Silver” and the Advanced 2 hour group will be “Age Group Gold”. The Senior Group will remain the same.
