17 year old Dani Kimmel (picture at right with a proud father) won the 100 yard Breaststroke at the 2005 CIF Championships with a time of 1:04.58.  This time was well under that needed to qualify for Speedo Junior National Championships.

Dani's outstanding swimming and scholastic record made her a shoe in for a scholarship, the only question was where?  That question was answered this fall when Dani accepted a full swimming scholarship to Pepperdine (click to see her signing national letter of intent).  Dani intends to major in journalism/business and has a particular passion for photo journalism.

Dani began swimming with South Bay Aquatic's coach Ned Maggiori back in 1995.  She stopped swimming temporarily when her family moved overseas to Bahrain, in the Persian Gulf for three years.  She swam for Monterey Bay Swim Club before returning to Chula Vista and rejoining South Bay Aquatics in 2001.  Her swimming and scholastic career have been exemplary during her four years at Eastlake, culminating in the recent college scholarship.

Dani is the epitome of what the South Bay Aquatics program strives to develop: the Student Athlete.  Along with her outstanding swimming performances, she maintains a 3.89 GPA at Eastlake High School.  She has been Captain and MVP of the High School Swim Team for the past two years, in addition, she earned Varsity letters in Water Polo for four years and even Varsity lettered in volleyball her senior year.
